Paynes Landing

The Rope Bridge

Picture
The 'anchor stones' are hydrocal from a Woodland Scenic's mold built up on both sides.  A gap was left at the bottom so that I can slide my river sections through to any desired location.  The base is a Masonite.  The bridge is actually a picket fence section available at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or Jo-Anne's - can't remember which.  Cut the points off and stain.  Then string hemp from the necklace section through the slats to cover the wire.  Leave the ends extra long.  Mount anchor stakes into base and top rock.  Whole thing should be dull-coated to remove sheen which doesn't look good with miniatures. By having the bridge as an independent piece, I can interject it as a 'discovery' as the characters interact with terrain features and encounters.

Sliding River

Picture
The stacks from the steam launch always interfere with the bridges.  The bridge also interferes with landings attempted on river by light aircraft this presents an interesting dilemma in games.  Launch and rope bridge in the back by Miniature Building Authority.

Picture
The rope bridge in the foreground is by Miniature building authority.  It's a fantastic terrain piece!  Well worth the money.  Their boards are also supported by heavy wire and I think it is executed much better.  In a way I like mine because it sits up higher.  As I reflect things hold more value when you have invested the creativity in making them.  (I made mine before MBA came out with theirs.)  I still use both of them in games.  The MBA one is much easier to pack.  The rope on mine looks too white.  Maybe I should use a little stain?  What do you think?
