The Sub is my version of a Type VII-C.  Careful examination reveals that I have omitted the magnetic compass bulge just forward of the conning tower for playability.  The plans for the sub were scanned from the Squadron/Signals publication 4001 - U-Boats In Action by Robert C. Stern Page #23.  I enlarged the file using MS "Paint" till I got an overall length of 43 3/4" or about 111 cm, which I calculated to be about right for an over all length.  I used 1 inch pine for the base, and then cut an additional 1 inch pine board at a steep angle on my table saw to give it a steep angle and 'nose high' appearance.  I also rendered the model as setting high in the water as most Type VII's are which displays the characteristic 'Saddle Tanks'.  After completing the hull I actually got stumped on how to complete the conning tower.  The project was shelved for about two years.  Eventually I simply took a large piece of pine and rounded it to the shape of an oval. Then I cut a piece of tin and wrapped it around this frame.  This model is one of my favorites, and is a veteran of the gaming table.  Because of the size it doesn't manouver well on the standard table 'set-up', however I fixed this problem by taking the back off one of my small (rolling) office chairs and setting a box on it to bring the level to table height.  Next I laid a piece of the same colored fabric over the box.
